In their desire for families to have a tangible way to remember their roots, Becky and Jim Mullane came up with an idea to invite them all back to create a new memory. In May, seven couples who were married at Dixon’s came back to the orchard for a celebratory tree-planting event.
“These first couples that were married here on the property have a special connection with us, just as we feel that we have with them,” Becky Mullane said. “It means a lot to us and is very special for us…we are starting over here, and from ground zero.”
Becky said the apple trees provide a metaphor for marriage. “We think it is special that they started this new ‘root system’ here, (their marriage) and that they would like to also plant an apple tree together, starting the life of a new apple tree on our place.”
